Working with Trouble
I will not shrink from trouble and tell myself that it is not of God. I will not divide the spirit and the flesh and cast half of me into darkness. Spirit and flesh issue from the same source. When I cut myself in half like this, I am a stranger in both worlds; I belong nowhere. I was designed to engage in all of life, to move through the trials of the world and know that they too are part of building the human spirit - part of the mind and heart of God.
I use problems as stepping stones.
God the helpful, strong and benignant preserver is also
God the devourer and destroyer. The torment of the couch
of pain and evil on which we are racked is his touch as
much as happiness and sweetness and pleasure. It is only
when we see with the eye of the complete union and feel
this truth in the depths of our being that we can entirely
discover behind that mask too the calm and beautiful
face of the all-blissful Godhead and in this touch that
tests our imperfection the touch of the friend and builder
of the spirit in man.
Sri Aurobindo
